Hi everyone, I wanted reach out to the network and let others know of a program I’m leading in support of veterans impacted with Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI).
I’m an Army vet myself and come from a military family (dad’s a Marine). I’m coming up on 10 years in the Army Reserve this October and am the former Director of Veterans Affairs for the City of Philadelphia. Currently, I run the Veterans’ Brain Health program at the Marcus Institute of Integrative Health: https://marcusinstitute.jeffersonhealth.org/vet
For those not familiar with the integrative health approach, it’s a fairly new, yet proven method designed to put the veterans front and center by connecting them with a team of dedicated clinicians from all disciplines (i.e., diet/nutrition, neuropsych, OT, PT, etc.). The end goal is to patch you up and improve your health, while also working with your existing VA or private healthcare physicians.
Regarding eligibility, they’re pretty open as we accept veterans from all components (active, guard and reserve) regardless of discharge character. The only hard criteria is that we ask veterans to be clean for the program (no active substance use before coming to the program).
The program is at no-cost as we cover things like travel, lodging, and food… it’s free.
If you’re interested or want to chat and learn more, drop me a line here: cxa269@jefferson.edu.
In Service,
Carlo A.
