These videos are interesting in that they show both the HMS Queen Elizabeth, which is the newest and the largest British Navy ship ever built, and the combined operations of the British and U.S. Marine F-35 fighter pilots that are using the HMS Queen Elizabeth as a naval air platform and currently taking part in operations against ISIS in Afghanistan.
The videos are all about the USMC F-35s taking off and landing on the HMS Queen Elizabeth. You will get a great view of how these jets performing both takeoff and landing operations.
The Queen Elizabeth has a very different design than our U.S. aircraft carriers. It has one of those sloping decks for takeoffs. The Marine pilots have a steep, quick learning curve to get the hang of the differences in the platforms, but, as you can see, they have it down pat.
These F-35s are unique in that they can land and take off both horizontally and vertically. I am always fascinated by this unique and very useful ability. It gives a natural option for the landing on any carrier deck, but particularly a deck like that of the Queen Elizabeth.
This new ship of the line for the British Navy is quite a ship indeed. You will see the flight deck crew operations and how they, like those on our own carriers, are a precise ballet of non-verbal communications. You will also see how maneuverable these F-35s are. The coordination between the deck crews and the pilots is a marvelous thing to see.
Enjoy this short and very visually interesting video.
