About me: I enlisted in February 2009. Went to ROTC in July 2012 and while at ROTC was technically on some kind of reserve status for the 4 years I was in school. Commissioned in 2016.
Referencing this post from 4 years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/MilitaryFinance/comments/5luwv8/montgomery_gi_bill_vs_post_911/
- I saw that after August 2011 the laws changed that didn't allow veterans to use both Montgomery GI Bill and 9/11 in conjunction. Seeing as how I joined before Aug11 but did take on a reserve status in 2012, how would that affect me legally for using the loophole education benefits (MGIB + 9/11).
- If I am able to use the MGIB and then later switch to the post 9/11 GI Bill, would I have to use all 36 months of MGIB then 12 of P9/11GIB? Or for example, can I use maybe 12 months of MGIB then use 36 months of post 9/11 GIB?
- Since I'm working full time, I want to go to school all online. Using the benefit calculator I input, Ch. 30 MGIB and selected "No" for taking any classes in person and my monthly stipend from the VA remained unchanged and I wanted to know if this is accurate? Ch. 30 doesn't change your monthly stipend if all classes are online? https://www.va.gov/gi-bill-comparison-tool/
Thank you!
