Road Rage with a Firearm – Road Rage can lead to serious criminal charges if you display your firearm or threaten another driver with your firearm. First of all, there is nothing happening on the road that should cause you to get so angry that you would pull out your firearm and threaten another driver. This is a very easy and foolish way to end up with a dangerous felony on your record.

Road Rage is foolish, to begin with. If someone cuts you off or does something while driving that you feel was wrong, just smile and wave at them. Even flipping someone off could cause the situation to escalate, so just let it go. It’s not worth risking a felony conviction over the actions of another driver.

Remember, these are all first-world problems. The fact is, you are probably driving around in a late model car, with air-conditioning, and a nice sound system. If someone else is driving in a way that you don’t like, just let them go and get on with the rest of your day. Even if they are completely in the wrong…so what? Try to take a pause and remind yourself that this is a first-world “problem”, and you are fortunate to have such a “problem” in the first place.

Whatever you do, don’t be an idiot and pull out your firearm. Even if your intention is to only scare the other driver, you can be charged with a very serious, mandatory prison offense. If you simply display your firearm during a Road Rage incident, you can expect at the least to be charged with felony disorderly conduct which carries mandatory prison for those who are convicted. If you point your firearm at another driver, you will most likely be charged with aggravated assault dangerous, which is a Class 3 felony. This means you could serve 5-15 years in prison, and this is not probation eligible, even for first-time offenders.

So, don’t be an idiot and ruin what could be many years of your life over a foolish Road Rage incident. Instead, smile and turn up the music, relax, and go about your day. Nothing on the road should cause you to get angry enough to threaten another driver with your firearm. Remember, these are first-world problems you are experiencing.

This is my advice on how to avoid getting into a Road Rage incident.
