Disabled Combat Veteran Retires From Air Force & Opens His Own Pecan Business

After 32-year-old Tim Williams retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving from 2008 to 2020, the Iraq combat disabled veteran decided to move to Georgia to live near his mom.

The property that he purchased in Kewanee Farms in Byron was filled with 86 pecan trees. Although he didn’t know anything about pecans when he first got to Georgia, he began doing his research and learned rather quickly.

It was then that he decided to not let all of these pecans go to waste, and start his own pecan business. He bought a pecan sheller and more equipment, with the hopes of selling his pecans.

He started a processing facility and converted an old home into a storefront, which is something he never thought he’d ever do prior to moving there from the Midwest.

He decided to name the business “Nut House Pecan Company,” where he sells fresh Georgia pecans, halves or pieces, that are vacuumed sealed. He also sells the nuts still in their shells for people who prefer them that way.

Within the next few years, Williams plans to tear down the Main Street building and make a new, bigger storefront there.

Since Williams gets his Air Force retirement and pension, he says he doesn’t run this business for the money.

“It’s something to keep me engaged, and to provide a service to the community,” he told Military Times.

Williams says he will donate a portion of his profits to JAVELAN, a program that provides funding for service dogs for military veterans and retired first responders.

This organization is very special to Williams since they trained his own service dog, Peter.

He will also donate profits to Star Bright Animal Rescue, which is where Peter was adopted from.
