Veterans With PTSD Find Comfort & Hope In Unexpected Hobby

Operation 11 Charlie Inc. is a non-profit organization that uses remote control vehicles to help veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder and other related issues.

Through their program, they introduce veterans and active service members to the world of remote control cars, and hope that they can form a new hobby that they’ll be able to use as an outlet to enjoy the outdoor world and experience nature.

“Our goal is to provide a sense of community, being a part of a family and to foster a safe place where they can feel comfortable and most of all a place with people who care,” they wrote on their website.

Not only do they provide to remote control vehicles, they also arrange outings for the members and their families to ensure a “welcoming and inclusive environment” for all.

Included in their vehicle package in addition to the car are batteries, a charger, tools, battery safety container, and a network of people who are able to help whenever they need it.

The organization recently held the Ultimate Scale Truck Expo in Williston, Florida, where members got to race and show off their vehicles.

“Hearing a Veteran say how well the hobby was helping him through the day in a deep honest conversation was a moment I will never forget,” wrote Nathan Snair, who attended the expo.

“The thought that this hobby and our Operation 11 Charlie program can put a smile on a face, distract the mind from being in a bad place, and most importantly the very thing that can possibly save a life is the very thing that keeps our motivation high.”

“If we create one smile, one happy thought, or save one life,” he continued, “then my friends we are being successful.”
