Vietnam Veteran Goes Fishing One Last Time

[ad_1]

Life is a long and wonderfully complicated journey. When it comes to the end, everyone reacts differently when they know their days are limited.

For one Georgia native and Vietnam Veteran, Connie Willhite, he had only two requests before he left this earth.

The first, was that he wanted to be able to enjoy one final fishing trip, and the second, was that he’d be baptized.

Willhite was being cared for by the Hospice Care Unit at the VA medical center. Staff at the care unit were well aware of his final requests, and they were more than happy to try and make each wish happen for him.

Willhite’s primary caretaker, Greg Senters, really made it his main priority to make sure that Willhite got everything he wanted. He helped the veteran to plan his final fishing trip, and even bought all the bait and tackle for the trip. He then got Willhite to the small lake that was just behind the medical center, and the fishing trip commenced.

While there was no guarantee that Willhite would catch a fish on their expedition, the veteran still remained in an upbeat mood according to Inside Edition.

It was quite a heartwarming experience, as Senters recalled, according to InspireMore, how those hours were close to magic as “the cancer and everything else went away, and what you see is that precious few moments of someone really enjoying life.”

It seemed that the universe showed up to make Willhite’s moment even memorable as the veteran managed to catch a small fish. WGXA tweeted a photo of his final request complete.

The only thing left was his baptism, and that came shortly after.

After living a long and wonderful life, Connie Willhite eventually passed away peacefully on the 29th of August. Rest in peace.
