Arby’s Gives A Veteran Free Food For Life

[ad_1]

If you are like most people, you probably have a favorite place where you enjoy getting fast food. Perhaps you may even visit that restaurant on a regular basis, just because you enjoy the taste and the products are consistent.

That is how a 97-year-old man feels about eating at an Arby’s in Chandler, Arizona. He is a World War II veteran named Doug, but the people who work at the Arby’s affectionately call him “Mr. Doug.”

When the employees asked him one time what kept him coming back to the same Arby’s location, he let them know with no uncertain terms why he is so loyal.

According to Fox10, he said: “This is the only place I can get a sandwich or get something to anything else to eat that doesn’t hurt my stomach.”

Every day, he sits at the same table and eats the same meal. He does it because of a stomach disorder. Arby’s is one of the only foods that he can eat.

So, what is it that Mr. Doug eats? A roast beef slider with swiss cheese and a senior drink, a Coke with no ice.

According to Fox10, the manager, Christina Gamage, said that they see him coming in with a walker and they try to get the doors for him. She started working at that location about 2 1/2 years ago, not long before Doug started to show up every day.

The staff realize that Doug has gone through quite a lot in his life, being a World War II veteran and living in a retirement home. He also doesn’t have any family to look after him, so the crew decided to do what they could.

The staff gave him a $200 gift card, telling him that lunch was on them. Mr. Doug was absolutely shocked and, according to one manager, he hardly had anything to say.

He was also given the phone numbers of the employees so that if he couldn’t make it one day, his favorite meal can be delivered.

Arby’s decided to take it to the next level, allowing him to have free Arby’s for life after the gift card runs out. He also got a free eye exam from a local eye doctor that included glasses.
