Hey everyone! I posted this on another thread but thought it could be useful for anyone experiencing issues with VA mental health care, specifically in regards to therapy.
The VA kept rescheduling my therapy and when I asked for community care, they screwed that up too. So I hopped on Google and found a great, local therapist who specializes in EMDR. I was hesitant initially because the cost was $120 per session and they usually recommend going once a week to start, if possible. I don’t know about y’all but that’s a pretty hefty amount to come out of pocket every month.
However, my therapist got me in contact with a veteran organization called Headstrong which, if you’re approved, will pay for your therapy sessions in full.
First, someone from Headstrong will call and do an intake questionnaire, then they’ll send you out in town to one of their in-network psychs for an evaluation. Once approved, they’ll give you a list of therapists they work with to choose from. The turnaround time was super quick, maybe a week and a half for me.
