New Faces at the NVF

Terrin Sullivan joined our staff in November. She served in the Army National Guard as a Medic from 2018-2021. She’s pursuing her master’s degree in Health Systems Engineering at Loyola Marymount University. A quick study, she was immediately up to speed to support Women Veterans on the Lifeline for Vets and in the field, where she exhibits her passion for serving Veterans daily. She’s dedicated to making a positive impact on the VA healthcare system. She wears red for Remember Everyone Deployed day. Her energy keeps us on our toes!

Daniel Meshad joined staff as a counselor in October. If his last name sounds familiar, it should. The son of a doctor who served as a Green Beret with the 5th Special Forces, Daniel is Shad’s first cousin. Among his other talents, Daniel’s a musician who has played in several popular bands in Arizona before coming to LA. He earned a BA degree at Northern Arizona University with a minor in Psychology. He has a background in non-profit work and served as Executive Director of The Anchor Cross Cancer Foundation for over 3 years as well as ED for The Special Needs Foundation of America. He is passionate about helping people in need and strives to provide a hand-up and not a hand-out for many folks who are struggling in their day to day lives.  When he is not working, he enjoys hiking around the LA area with his dog Django and looks forward to learning how to surf.  Service seems to run in a broad generational streak in the family. We’re delighted to have him on staff.

The newest face is Ray Wallace, who joins us in May, referred by Robert Hernandez who interned with us last year. Ray is a 10-year Navy Vet with Vet-to-Vet Counselor experience at Volunteers of America and a Hip Hop/Rap artist who completed a 13-show tour in 2019. His arrival at the same time as the new van is a piece of phenomenally good timing: he’s a driver and forklift operator. In addition to counseling on the Lifeline, he’ll conduct homeless outreach with the team. 

Richard Chiamulon returns as a counselor on our Lifeline for Vets.  He was a mainstay in the office from 2017 to February 2018 when he relocated to the Pacific Northwest where he lives now with his wife and twin sons, Josiah and Leander, toddlers now. Richard’s hours extend our days on the Lifeline for Vets, adding coverage before and after normal working hours and on the weekends.   

Marc Thurston, who enjoys a reputation as probably the best VSO (Veteran Service Officer) in Southern California, has joined our advisory board.  Marc’s worked closely with the NVF, handling many referrals from our Lifeline for Vets hotline. He joined us in March 2019 in our first all-day Strategy session as a vital Stakeholder. We’re delighted to have him join our Advisory Board.
