Dad Gives His Son The First Salute After He Is Commissioned As A Marine Corps Officer

[ad_1]

There are some moments in our life that define us. Those moments may be different from one person to another, but each of us has something special in our life that we can look back on and realize that our life was never the same after it happened.

In the video that we see below, it was a moment that was shared by two individuals. One of the men is Master Sgt. Mike Fisher, who is looking on at another man in the video and giving him a salute.

To a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, giving the salute is nothing out of the ordinary, but this was no ordinary salute.

The first salute after a Marine is made an officer is known as the silver-dollar salute.

It has been a long-standing tradition that the first person to salute the officer is given a silver dollar as a sign of the respect that was shown to them. In this case, however, it was something much more.

Fisher was saluting his son, who was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. It was a moment that I’m sure both of them will remember and, thanks to this viral video, it was one that many thousands were able to share with them.

He said: “I’ve watched you grow and mature and become the man that you are today. You have always been respectful, by saying ‘Yes sir.’ ‘No sir.’ ‘Yes, ma’am.’ And ‘No, ma’am.’ A salute is a sign of respect. It is a privilege to render you your first salute. But it is a greater honor to say ‘Congratulations, sir, on your commissioning.’”

You can see the videos as the two of them shared that special moment below.
