(Tomorrow) FREE Austin, TX-based peer support group for combat veterans : Veterans

[ad_1]

Are you a combat veteran living in/near Austin, TX?

The Institute for Military and Veteran Family Wellness within the University of Texas – Austin is starting a *FREE* (virtual only at the moment) peer support group for combat veterans within the Austin area. The event/signup page for this is located below, although I’ll copy and paste the information from the EventBrite page as well. This group is not used for research, and is strictly for the support of combat veterans and their unique challenges upon separation from the military.

The first meeting will be this Friday, (April 9, 2021) from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM CDT.

“The Austin Warrior Circle aims to create a space where Austin area veterans can come together to meet and connect with peers in their area. Come to talk with other vets about navigating the challenges of life following the battlefield, share your experiences with those who have similar histories, and simply have a space to check in with peers.

The group will be led by Marine combat veteran Jesse Bendokas and will meet every other week on Fridays from 4:00-5:00 pm CDT. The group will be ongoing and meet virtually until the threat of COVID has passed, at which point the group will discuss moving to an in-person format if desired.

The group will be open to new members for the first 2 sessions (April 9th and 23rd).

Upon registration for the event, you will be e-mailed a Zoom invite to join via computer, tablet, or phone. Since you will be sharing about your lives, we ask that participants attend the virtual session from a room where privacy can be maintained, or utilize headphones to ensure that “what’s said here, stays here.”

*Please note that this event is at 4:00 pm Central Daylight Time. If no participants arrive to the event within the first 15 minutes, the event will be canceled.

Note: To be eligible for this group you must be a veteran living in the greater Austin area.

Eligibility for our Virtual Social Clubs varies by session, so please check our Eventbrite page to see other social clubs that may interest you.”
