Show Your Support for Memorial Day

[ad_1]

Some History

Memorial Day, also known as Decoration Day, occurs on the last Monday of May every year. Everyone’s excited for the upcoming summer vacation, and the three-day weekend. But the importance of Memorial Day can never be ignored. It is a solemn day to remember everyone who lost their lives for the sake of our country. Initially, it started as a Legal Day to honor military personnel who died in the Civil War (1861-1865). But after World War I, the United States designate it as a Federal Day to commemorate those who have died in military service. A lot of concerts, events, and parties will be organized by communities to honor it. Here are some meaningful ways to show your support:

Visit Cemeteries and Memorials

Pay a visit to cemeteries and memorials of fallen stars, clean the burial sites, and decorate the graves with flowers and wreaths to pay homage. You can also organize a small prayer meeting to remember their service.

Patriotic House Décor

It’s time to show off the red white and blue and spread the patriotic spirit to your home. Decorate your front door with pretty wreaths. Create the best photo backdrop for your kids and paint the whole yard in patriotic stars (don’t forget to use environmentally friendly paint!). Adorn your shelves with tiny flags. This would be a wonderful tribute and perfect not only for Memorial Day but also throughout the year.

Parade Participation

Most U.S. cities organize different events, concerts and parades. Show your support by attending any of them. Wave the national flag with pride and cheer for the army personnel who continue to serve our country.

Just Say “Thanks” To the Great Men

Saying “thank you” might be simple but it could mean the world to someone. Get creative and write a positive, inspiring letter signed by people from your community. Send it to our army men with a bouquet of flowers. They will feel overwhelmed to know that you appreciate their sacrifice.

Visit a Veteran’s Hospital

Instead of spending your weekend the usual way, drop by to the local veteran’s hospital, spend some time with them and share their experiences. Such an act will brighten their day and remind them how valued they are.

Volunteer Your Services

Send care packages to our troops overseas and make them feel they are not alone. You can help in building homes for military families in need by reaching out to charity organizations, building contractors and material manufacturers to raise funds. Join hands with the American Red Cross and donate blood or connect with other donors.

Support through Social Media

Upload pictures of war heroes, share a cover story about the history of Memorial Day and its importance. This will raise the community spirit and remind everyone of the true meaning of this day.

The National Moment of Remembrance

It’s a time you enjoy together with your family and friends. Take a few minutes from your hectic schedule to pause in an act of true national unity. This year, Memorial Day falls on May 29. So at 3 p.m., stop whatever it is that you are doing and honor America’s fallen and their families with a minute of silence.

Wear Remembrance Wristbands

What better way to bring people together and create awareness about the significance of Memorial Day? By holding a campaign in your local community, you take a significant step towards helping achieve this goal. Invite veterans to share their experiences and surprise everyone at the event with customized remembrance wristbands as a giveaway gift. Silicone bracelets are available in a variety of colors and designs which never go out of fashion. Customize your wristbands in red, white and blue to show your patriotism.
