Middle Eight Music is an Australian record label, CD retailer and wholesale distributor based in Melbourne, Victoria . It was established in 1998 by singer/songwriter Shane Hewitt. The business began with just a handful of releases by local artists, but within a few years its catalogue grew to include a wide range of Australian and international show music, cabaret and jazz CDs.
In April 2005, Max Peterson, a 30-year veteran of the music retail industry, became a partner in Middle Eight Music and in July of that year he and Shane proudly launched their new store in beautiful South Yarra in Melbourne.
The shop has quickly gained a reputation as the premier show music outlet in Australia , with all the latest Broadway and Australian Cast Recordings as well as an expanded range of cabaret, nostalgia and fringe and comedy artists on CD and DVD.
Middle Eight Music is especially proud to provide an online presence for some of Australia’s most exciting young Fringe and Comedy Artists who have been gaining an International reputation mainly through appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe. These include Tim Minchin, Eddie Perfect, Scared Weird Little Guys and the fabulous Kransky Sisters.
Middle Eight Music also support the stars of the Australian Opera including David Hobson, Joan Sutherland, Yvonne Kenny, Teddy Tahu Rhodes, Anthony Warlow, Cheryl Barker and the ‘diva with the common touch’ June Bronhill who sadly passed away last year.
And not forgetting the kiddies, Middle Eight Music provide an online outlet for the CDs and DVDs of one of Australia’s most beloved childrens performers, Peter Combe.
