A List of Ultrasound Scholarships for Sonography Students

[ad_1]

Pursuing a career in diagnostic medical sonography or as an ultrasound technician can be expensive. Whether just graduating from high school and starting higher education for the first time, or returning to school later in life, new students in sonography often need to seek grants, general financial assistance, sonography program scholarships or ultrasound technician scholarships. Doing so requires research and application completion time, things which most graduating seniors and aspiring adult students both seem to have little of, to devote to the sometimes frustrating financial aid process. To make things easier on sonography students, below are a list of ten available sonography scholarships applicable to their chosen career field.

AMVETS Organization

Through AMVETS, an American veterans service organization, six $4,000 scholarships are available to high school seniors who are the child or grandchild of a veteran of the US military or active duty armed forces member. Former military members or active duty servicemen and women are also eligible for one of three $4,000 scholarships set aside just for their educational future. Junior ROTC high school seniors are eligible for their own $1000 award toward higher education, which can include any college or accredited ultrasound technician program. To be eligible for the $4000 award, high school seniors must have a 3.0 GPA or higher, demonstrate financial need and show a bright future in academia. More information about this scholarship is available on the AMVETS website, or high school seniors can seek additional information through their family servicemember or high school counselor.

Anne Jones Scholarship of the Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU)

The Society for Vascular Ultrasound awards a $2500 Anne Jones Scholarship to a student actively enrolled as a full time student in an accredited vascular ultrasound education program offering an associate or BS degree. The student must also be a US citizen or permanent resident of the United States, in addition to maintaining a 3.5 GPA or greater in their academic studies. Applicants must submit two typed professional letters of recommendation, a 500 word essay, information about their financial need for the scholarship, details of applicable extra-curricular activities, the student’s official transcript, their resume and the official application for the Anne Jones Scholarship. More information can be obtained from the Society for Vascular Ultrasound website.

Lansing Community College

Active students or those accepted to degree programs in medical sonography at Lansing Community College (LCC) in Michigan are eligible for a variety of ultrasound scholarships. The Belen Health Careers Scholarship is for students who commit to working one year at a healthcare facility in Lansing, Michigan. Another requirement is that the student must be over the age of 25 years. An additional scholarship option for young mothers who are LCC students with a 3.0 GPA or higher is the Jan and Joe Foster Health Careers Scholarship. For this award, the student must be 23 years of age or older. The Peppermint Gift Shop Scholarship of the Ingham Regional Medical Center provides an amount of $1500 to each of two medical students annually. All of these programs, and others as they become available, may be reviewed and applied for on the school website.
